Adult Mentor

Brief Overview

Adult Mentors are women in the community 24 years and older who are interested in sharing their own lived experiences, professional background, and interests to create long-lasting relationships with their assigned Peer Mentor and a group of six to eight mentees.

Peer Mentor

Brief Overview

Peer Mentors are high school or college-aged students aged 16-23 who are interested in sharing their own lived experiences with younger girls and serving as role model in their community. As Peer Mentors, they will be paired with an adult woman mentor to facilitate virtual mentorship sessions for groups of girls ages 8-11.

Communications Specialist

Brief Overview

The Communications Specialist will create and implement the communication & marketing plan for GRP’s Mentor Program. This role will use existing GRP communications channels as well as suggest new communications channels to create awareness and promote the program with the ultimate goal of securing participants.

Curriculum Trainer

Brief Overview

The Trainer will work alongside the Mentor Program team to deliver the program curriculum to Mentors. The Trainer is responsible for leading this process by mapping out and facilitating a virtual training program for Mentor groups. These sessions should prepare Mentors to deliver the Program Curriculum to their mentee groups through an inclusive and justice-focused lens. Training sessions will take place monthly over the course of six-eight months.

Family Engagement Coordinator

Brief Overview

The family Engagement Coordinator will partner with Mentor Program team members to support the families of the mentees who join the program. The Liaison will guide families through GRP’s programming to support their child’s journey as well as address family needs, feedback, and more.

Brief Overview

Volunteer Coordinator (Mentor Program)

Brief Overview

The Volunteer Coordinator will partner with Mentor Program Volunteer Coordinators to support volunteer recruiting and coordination for the program. This role will establish connections with potential volunteers as well as onboard and support volunteers committed to the program. Additionally, the coordinator will organize and oversee the training of volunteers by adapting program content.

These task forces support specific areas of the organization. 

 

Marketing and Communications

Description

The Marketing and Communications Team will guide all communications, website, and public relations messages to consistently articulate Girls Are Powerful’s mission, vision, and goals. 

For example:

  • Write, edit, and post social media content.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement new channels to promote Girls Are Powerful Events and Programs. 
  • Suggest ways to develop brand awareness, such as through promotions and competitions.
  • Write content for both print and web, including promotional materials, website, blog, brochures, campaigns, and newsletter.

Community Outreach

Description

The Community Outreach Team will oversee the planning and implementation of Girls Are Powerful outreach strategies by:

  • increasing the visibility of the organization in the community
  • creating sponsorship agreements
  • and cultivating relationships with businesses, individuals, and other relevant organizations. 

Responsibilities

  • Update, organize and expand the community database of contacts, volunteers, donors, and overall network.
  • Help spread the word and increase awareness for upcoming programming and events.
  • Promote the organization in a positive and meaningful way to get others interested and involved.

Fundraising Management

Description

The Fundraising Management team raises funds for the Girls Are Powerful organization, ensuring a positive community image for the organization and enhancing its financial base.

For example

  • Planning and coordinating fundraisers.
  • Adapting new fundraising initiatives.
  • Spreading the organization’s message to the community. 

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop relationships with potential donors:
  • Create effective strategies for maximizing donations.
  • Assist in planning the organization’s year-round fundraising campaigns, including special events, public awareness campaigns, and capital or endowment campaigns.

Program Management

Description

The Program Management Team is responsible for the operational success of Girls Are Powerful, ensuring seamless team management and development, program delivery, and quality control and evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor Program:

    • Assist with Info Session events by
      • Recruiting interested parents/caregivers and/or prospective mentors.
      • Attending the session to share your experience and speak to interested participants.
    • Collaborate with the Community Outreach team to facilitate mentee recruitment and parent/caregiver outreach.
    • Assist in planning and executing other Mentor Program events.

Volunteer Management

Description

The Volunteer Management Team screens, places, supervises, and retains volunteers in support of the Girls Are Powerful program, service, and event needs.

Responsibilities

GRP-wide:

  • Mentor Program:

    • Receive communications from the Volunteer Management Team about Adult/Peer Mentor candidates to interview. 
    • Conduct 30-minute Zoom interviews, providing candidates with information about the mentor program, fielding questions, and taking notes on candidates’ knowledge and experience.
    • Provide administrative support as needed.
